I’m going to be honest. I wasn’t all that “in” to making something last night. Sometimes, you don’t really feel creative…or more specifically, habit takes over and your normal routine of watching DVR and checking your email every 8 minutes just seems easier than actually making your brain do something it has never done before.
Which is why this is a worthwhile experiment. Pretty much any day that actively fights “habit” is a pretty good day.
Today was different though. Once I got done cleaning my house and washing the towels that I think my Italian roommate banged a chick on, I was excited to sit down and make something. Earlier in the day I had the idea to make an album cover for a Black Metal band that doesn’t exist. And a shitty one at that, because lets face it, shitty Black Metal album covers are the best things ever. Perfect timing too, because I still had one more tape case to design.
So I grabbed the blank back page out of the oldest, yellow-est book I have, (a copy of “Let Us Now Praise Famous Men” from the 70’s) cut it into the shape of a tape case, and drew myself a Black Metal cover. I had visions of upside down crosses, blood, scary castles and Pagan grim reapers marauding through my head, but once I finished the Black Metal Scum logo and let that blood drip, I liked the look of it. So I drew a pile of remains in a pool of blood (duh) like my logo had just murdered something, and called it a day.
I love it. Shit, I want to keep it. Rules is rules though, so I’ll be leaving it at a record store or something. Next step is to actually put the music on the tapes.
Also, I need to apologize for the crap photos here. My scanner is refusing to work, so I have to use my iphone. I’m still workin on fixing the scanner though.
