Got home today after a particularly shitty day and for some reason I was furious at everything. I tried to transfer some music to my tape recorder only to find it was broken. Then I tried to fix my scanner, and I had no luck there either. It was pretty frustrating and I’m surprised either of those devices made it through the evening alive.
Clearly, technology wasn’t working out for me. So when I was the most frustrated, I went “analog” and grabbed a pen and some graph paper and started to just draw. The image I was chasing in my head was similar to the cover of Flying Lotus’ Cosmogramma in that it was just a bunch of lines converging and doing strange things.
Whoa, getting damn close to midnight here. I knew I wanted to get a video up tonight, but I wasn’t sure what. So I dug into the “Optronics” footage I shot with Oceans In Space and found this awesome public service announcement for all you laptop musicians out there. OBEY THIS SHIT.
I’m going to be honest. I wasn’t all that “in” to making something last night. Sometimes, you don’t really feel creative…or more specifically, habit takes over and your normal routine of watching DVR and checking your email every 8 minutes just seems easier than actually making your brain do something it has never done before.
Which is why this is a worthwhile experiment. Pretty much any day that actively fights “habit” is a pretty good day.
