Man…I didn’t really plan on this, but the last blast of writing hasn’t stopped. I keep thinking of different zombie scenarios and as I let them play out in my mind, I made the decision to write them down. I saw myself going after some different projects this week, but it seems to just be zombie week so far. I’m fine with that.
Well thats not entirely true. I took an hour after work and took some photos with my Holga for my brother. He’s a firefighter, so I went and grabbed some (hopefully) cool photos of the fire station from Ghostbusters (Cats and Dogs! Living together!) for him. That would probably be my “thing” for today, but the photos will take a day or two to get developed.
It was on my way home that I thought of a short continuation for this “Untitled” series I’ve been writing over at Tales of World War Z. I’ve been writing it for about 4 years now…wow…and the last part, part 4, must have been written about a year ago. It kind of follows a murderous junkie freak named “Fuck” on the edge of insanity and a zombie pimp…kind of. The continuation of the story hit me halfway between sleep and awake on the train tonight, it was an idea and a tone that I felt comfortable with, so I wrote it up. You can find it below, along with links to the previous parts of the series. Again, this one will probably end up on ToWWZ eventually. If the editor sees fit, that is.

Last nights “thing” had to go up on twitter since I was nowhere near a laptop as the Jets imploded. It was a zombie story/outline co-written with a friend of a friend. I’ll give you the jist… It involves a Mexican village, a reanimated priest, a child sacrifice, a zombie with a gun, and a crossbow wielding Vatican death dealer who may or may not be turning into a zombie. So that was that.
In that vein, for today I opted to finish the “Cakewalk” story I posted awhile back. Like the first part, I had it lying around for awhile, all I needed to do was tweak it. I like it. It wraps itself up, where a lot of the other stories I write leave themselves open ended (there’s no comfort in the zombie apocalypse..duh), sometimes its nice to see it to the end. You can check it out below, and eventually it will end up on Tales of World War Z.
We’re in the home stretch here…and I’m not out of ideas. Stay tuned.
Cakewalk – Part 2
The fire stirred up in each one of us comes screaming out in huge angry strides. The seam of the undead stretches out in front of us, and a sight that usually spells death and retreat seems like a smiling challenge begging for our bootheels. I clutch my crowbar tightly, each end sharpened and scarred, a part of me since the sun went down and never came back up. In front of me, white headstones spread out in rows, identical in shape but not in content. Thousands, all the way to a horizon flecked with the hulls of planes, great crushed airliners that failed to save us from the realization that each destination was more tainted than the last. A jeep carrying The General screams past, guns blazing precious high caliber promises. His megaphone screams, “THIS LIFE! A FUCKING CAKEWALK. MAKE THEM PAY!”

Spent most of last night (when I wasn’t busy killing 8 beers and playing video games) and most of today putting all of the noise songs I’ve ever done onto those tapes I mentioned.
I consider this a creation because it took a lot of time and effort to get these songs from my computer onto a tape via a questionable cable setup and an extremely old and almost broken tape recorder (see the rig below). Each song had its own unique levels, since they were all recorded at different times, so I had to do a lot of testing to make sure they werent TOO blown out…a little bit of that is OK.
I’m happy with the result, so here is a download of the first tape, side A. I think of analog as its own instrument…you take some sound, you run it through a tape, and it comes out different. These songs came out wrapped in this warm layer of dirt that I think sounds badass. I still need to do the same move on the two other tapes. At which point I will drop them off at record stores.
